Riinu’s Story: How a Cardigan Became the Backbone of Her Wardrobe
Riinu’s Story: How a Cardigan Became the Backbone of Her Wardrobe
Some wardrobes are built from spontaneous choices. Others slowly evolve to reflect the person wearing them, quietly becoming part of everyday life.
Riinu’s is one of those.
She is a marketing specialist who divides her time between Tartu and Tallinn, and she has been wearing Woolish knitwear since 2018. Over the years, those pieces have become far more than practical layers against the cold. They’ve become part of her daily routine, her personal style, and in some ways, even her identity.

It All Started With One Poncho
Although Riinu doesn’t remember her very first encounter with Woolish exactly, there is one vivid memory that always comes to mind first. Tartu. Tähe Street. An Estonian design store. She had gone in to browse knitwear, simply looking around without any intention of buying anything.
Then, at one point, she received a gift card to the same shop.
“After that, it was obvious that the Woolish poncho was coming home with me.”
It wasn’t a big or complicated decision. More like a quiet realization that this was something that simply felt right. But stories that last often begin exactly like that.
The Feeling That Keeps Bringing Her Back
When Riinu talks about her first experiences with Woolish, she doesn’t begin with the material, the fit, or the practicality. She talks about a feeling.
“To be honest, I felt proud. Proud to wear Estonian design. For me, it’s a matter of principle.”
It’s not something that can truly be written on a label or fully explained in words. But it exists, and it’s what makes certain choices repeat themselves over time. From that moment on, it was no longer just a single purchase. It became the beginning of something she has returned to again and again over the years.

Knitwear That Lives Alongside You
Years pass and wardrobes evolve, but some pieces stay. Riinu’s very first poncho has since moved on, but many of her other knits are still with her today. Not simply stored away, but actively worn and part of everyday life. One of them is a long bright green cardigan with purple trims that holds a particularly special meaning for her.
“When I take it out of the wardrobe, that’s when spring and summer begin for me.”
At that point, it is no longer just a garment. It becomes a marker of a season, a feeling, a rhythm that returns year after year. Perhaps that is exactly where the value of quality knitwear lies. It is not something for a single season, but something that moves through time with you.
What Makes a Knitwear Piece a Favourite?
For Riinu, it is not enough for a knit to simply look good. Equally important is how it fits, how it feels, and how naturally it fits into her life.
She says a truly great piece combines several things at once: quality materials, a thoughtfully designed fit, and strong design. But beyond that, there is always that certain “something” you only understand once you put it on.
Right now, her clear favourite is the pink Lola mohair cardigan.
“I love the contrast, the ultra feminine pink colour paired with a heavier, slightly tougher texture. It’s a piece that stands out, but still works effortlessly for everyday wear. It goes with so many outfits… and it’s so warm.”
It is the cardigan she reaches for most often, and that says a lot.

The Cardigan as a Reliable Choice
If Riinu had to choose between a sweater and a cardigan, the answer comes quickly.
“Cardigan.”
Not because of trends, but because it simply suits her life best. She wears knitted cardigans in different ways throughout the year. Layered under a coat in winter. As outerwear in spring and autumn. On cooler summer evenings. They can be worn open or buttoned up, relaxed or more structured. It is one of those rare pieces that adapts to the situation instead of demanding the opposite.
A Wardrobe That Grows With You
Over the years, Riinu has collected an impressive number of Woolish knits. Including hats and gloves, she estimates there are well over thirty pieces by now. And yet, somehow, it still occasionally feels like something is missing.
She says this with a smile, but there is truth in it. Every piece has its own role, its own moment, its own feeling. One works best for freezing winter days, another for spring, a third for travelling. A wardrobe is never truly finished. It develops over time, alongside the person wearing it.

Colour as Character
Although Riinu’s wardrobe has become more neutral and understated in recent years, colour has never disappeared from her life.
“There always has to be at least one colourful detail.”
It can be subtle or bold, but it gives an outfit personality and life. Interestingly, Woolish has also helped her discover entirely new shades. Bright green, for example, was once a colour she never considered “hers,” but has since become one of her favourites.
Knitwear for Wherever Life Takes You
For Riinu, Woolish knitwear is not reserved for home or cold weather. It is part of her everyday life: workdays, travels, city life, and time spent in nature.
She appreciates how easy the pieces are to pack and how reliably they work in different situations. These are garments she can count on, pieces that function well, look good, and simply feel right.

“An Ambassador for Estonian Design”
Over the years, Riinu has received plenty of positive feedback while wearing Woolish knitwear. Her colleagues sometimes jokingly call her an ambassador for Estonian design.
She laughs about it.
But when you think about it, if you consistently wear Estonian design for years, choose it consciously, and feel proud of it, perhaps it is not entirely a joke after all. Perhaps it simply becomes a natural part of who you are.
Three Words That Say It All
If Riinu had to sum up her experience in just three words, she would describe Woolish as:
“Special. Warm. Lovely.”
In Closing
Riinu’s story is not simply about one cardigan or even just one brand.
It is an example of how, over time, the choices in our wardrobes stop being random. How one small decision to choose something that feels right can grow into something much more lasting.
Over the years, Woolish knitwear has become a natural part of Riinu’s everyday life. Not separate “special occasion” pieces worn only once in a while, but rather the garments she keeps returning to when standing in front of her wardrobe in the morning, packing for a trip, or simply wanting to feel comfortable and like herself.
Perhaps that is what matters most.
Not how many knitwear pieces you own, but which ones you genuinely return to.
The ones that work.
The ones that last.
The ones that slowly become more and more your own over time.
And at some point, you realise it is no longer just clothing that covers the body.
It has become part of your story.
