Woolish mohair cardigan is warm, soft, and a responsible choice from recycled materials
A mohair cardigan is a timeless piece that combines luxury with softness and cozy fluffiness. Woolish new Lola mohair cardigans and sweaters are made for those who value warmth, elegance, and conscious consumption all in one.
In the world of knitwear, sustainability is a growing conversation. But what does it really mean when you look beyond the words and down to the fiber itself? For Woolish, sustainability isn’t a buzzword. It's the philosophy behind everything we do. It starts with the very fibers that make up our yarn. For the first time, we’re using recycled mohair and wool yarn to offer a wider choice for the conscious customer.

What is mohair?
Have you ever wondered what mohair is and where it comes from? Mohair is a natural animal fiber, known for its silky sheen and durability. While merino wool remains our favorite, wool can also come from several other animals besides sheep. This beautiful fiber is grown year-round by Angora goats.
Mohair has been prized for centuries. It’s warm yet breathable, and resilient. Making it an ideal match for our ever-changing northern climate. Mohair is softer, lighter, and shinier than regular wool. Even a small amount of mohair in yarn gives it that distinctive fluff and luxurious texture.
At Woolish, we carefully choose our mohair yarn. Our new recycled mohair yarn blends mohair fibers with wool to ensure softness, strength, and long-lasting quality.

A mohair knit is like a nature’s little engineer
A mohair knit is insulation system made by nature itself. The hair of the Angora goat is partially hollow, making it incredibly light and warm. These microscopic air channels act like natural insulation by trapping body heat while allowing air to circulate freely.
The result is a material that adapts to your body temperature. Mohair knits are warm but also don't let you overheat, perfect for both cold winter days and cool spring evenings.

Our mohair yarn is soft, fluffy, and recycled
Mohair yarn stands out for its light texture and luxurious appearance. The recycled mohair yarn we use is made by reusing pre- and post-consumer textile waste. It results in less waste and a smaller environmental footprint.
When it comes to textile recycling, all roads lead to Prato, Italy — the world capital of textile reuse. This small town has perfected the craft of turning old into new for centuries. Production there relies on mechanical recycling. There's no need to use chemicals, added dyes, and inenergy use is minimal.
That’s where the recycled wool and mohair yarn used in some of Woolish knits is born. Used garments and production leftovers are collected, sorted by material (for example, 100% wool or 100% mohair), then shredded and broken down into fibers. To achieve the desired tone and texture, the waste is sorted by color and blended carefully. The entire process is 100% GRS-certified, ensuring transparency and environmental responsibility every step on the way.
What makes this recycled mohair yarn special?
// 50% recycled wool – durable, breathable, and thermoregulating.
// 50% recycled mohair – adds texture, fluffiness, and an elegant sheen.
// Undyed yarn – the final color is achieved by blending existing fibers in right tones, so there’s no need for additional dyeing or bleaching.
// Mechanical processing – less water and less energy used.
// Responsible production – each skein of yarn is a small masterpiece of modern recycling.
Recycled wool and mohair yarn means fewer resources used, but just as much warmth, beauty, and love.

The result? Mohair knits that stand the test of time
From this yarn we create sweaters and cardigans that embody thoughtful design: clean lines, timeless shapes, and valued material. The natural texture and tone of the fibers give each garment depth. The color isn’t “perfect,” it’s alive. A knit that not only keeps you warm, but "breathes" with you.
We create what we truly believe in: slow fashion that respects both the material and the maker.
Mohair knits are ideal for anyone who values comfort and elegance. With their airy texture and gentle fluffiness, they’re the kind of knits you’ll want to wear every day.

Compared to identical yarns made from virgin materials, choosing recycled yarn saves 94% CO₂, 98% water, and 80% energy.
Every detail matters, even the buttons
The pink Lola mohair cardigan is finished with Corozo buttons, made from the 100% natural Tagua tree nut. Corozo nuts are environmentally friendly because they are only harvested once they fall naturally from the tree. Fully biodegradable, Corozo is one of the most sustainable natural materials used in button-making.
For the grey Lola mohair cardigan, we’ve chosen Bioresin buttons made from a new bio-based material. It is an unsaturated polyester-resin that contains over 25% fruit and vegetable waste. This makes the carbon footprint of these buttons around 25% smaller than the regular polyester ones.

Slow fashion and slow knit care
At Woolish, we believe that sustainability is also about how long you love and wear your clothes. Lola mohair cardigans are made to be loved for years.
But slow fashion is not just about mindful design. It’s also about slow care. A good mohair knit doesn’t need frequent washing. It needs gentleness and time. Usually, airing it out is enough; fresh air restores the fluff and removes odors. Fewer washes mean less water, less energy, and a longer life.
The same principles apply to both mohair and wool knits. See our blog post “3 Tips How to Care for Your Knits”. These simple steps will help to keep your mohair cardigan fresh and in shape for years to come.
Mohair knit is a timeless, conscious choice
A mohair knit is a classic that never goes out of style. Every piece of knitwear at Woolish is created in the spirit of slow fashion. A good knit should stay with you for years, not just a single season.
